DESCRIPTION:Colorado Humanities is thrilled to partner with Stories on Stage for “Mixed Company” on Sunday\, November 10 at 2 p.m. at Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center. \nJenny Shank is an accomplished author\, teacher\, and journalist who grew up in Denver\, Colorado. She earned degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Colorado. Her notable works include the short story collection Mixed Company\, which won the George Garrett Fiction Prize and the Colorado Book Award in 2023\, and her novel The Ringer\, which won the High Plains Book Award. Shank’s writing has appeared in prestigious publications such as The Atlantic\, The Guardian\, and The Washington Post. She teaches creative writing at the Mile High MFA program at Regis University in Denver and lives in Boulder\, Colorado with her family. \nNoelia Antweiler\, MacKenzie Beyer\, and Anne Marie Nest perform “Casa del Rey” – Don’t judge a book by its cover;”La Sexy Cana” – What happens when you mentor someone who doesn’t want to be mentored? and “Local Honey” – A couple help an adopted child navigate the world\, from Jenny Shank’s short story collection “Mixed Company”. \nJoin us for an after-show discussion and book signing with Jenny Shank and the free milk and cookies reception with the cast! \n“Mixed Company” is sponsored in part by the Citizens of the Scientific and Cultural District (SCFD)\, Colorado Creative Industries\, Bonfils Stanton Foundation\, Boulder County Arts Alliance and The Denver Post. \nCelebrating their 24nd Season\, Stories on Stage presents renowned actors performing dynamic and entertaining short stories. \nTickets are $26 and are available at www.storiesonstage.org or by calling 303-494-0523.

DESCRIPTION:Join Professor and 2024 Colorado Book Award finalist Annie Dawid at Rawlings Branch Library as she reads from and discusses her historical fiction book\, Paradise Undone: A Novel of Jonestown and answers questions from the audience. \nParadise Undone\, A Novel of Jonestown is a part real\, part imagined retelling of the tragic events that led to the biggest single loss of civilian life in the U.S. in the 20th century. On November 18\, 1978\, 909 people died in the Guyanese jungle. Published on the 45th anniversary of this tragic day\, Annie Dawid’s compelling story of Jonestown explores the tragedy through the voices of four protagonists—Marceline Baldwin Jones and three other members of the Peoples Temple. \nThis event is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Cottonwood Center for the Arts’ 2nd Friday Lecture Series offers big ideas from artists\, historians\, scholars\, and culture creators on the 2nd Friday of every month. Join us in November for a talk with Katie Scruggs Galloway. \nKATIE SCRUGGS GALLOWAY \nKatie Scruggs Galloway is a poet\, editor\, and author of the debut collection Still and Still Moving. This book was a finalist in the 2024 Colorado Book Awards (poetry category).  She is also the co-creator of Becoming // Poetry\, a Colorado-based duo that has been writing spontaneous poems for strangers and hosting community writing workshops since 2019. Katie earned a bachelor’s degree in English and writing from Eastern Oregon University. When she’s not at her desk\, you can find Katie creating through analogue photography and music (Color Math on Spotify).
