SUMMARY:National Book Festival
DESCRIPTION:The 22nd annual Library of Congress National Book Festival will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington\, D.C.\, on Saturday\, Sept. 3\, The event is free and open to the public. This year’s theme is “Books Bring Us Together.” A selection of programs will be livestreamed online and videos of all programs will be available shortly after the Festival. \nEvery year during the National Book Festival\, a list of books representing the literary heritage of the 50 states\, the District of Columbia\, Puerto Rico\, the U.S. Virgin Islands\, Guam\, American Samoa and Northern Marianas is distributed by the Library of Congress’s Center for the Book. Each book is selected by a local Center for the Book or state library and most are for children and young readers. \nThis year\, Colorado is represented by 2021 Colorado Book Awards winner Gregroy Barrington’s book Cow Boy Is Not a Cowboy and 2019 National Book Award finalist Kali Fajardo-Anstine’s new book\, Woman of Light. \nTo view the full schedule\, visit Library of Congress National Book Festival.

DESCRIPTION:The Southwest Colorado Humanities Roundtable has coordinated a month of history\, anthropological\, and archaeological events in La Plata County this September. \n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by The Powerhouse\, 1333 Camino Del Rio\nContact: Charlotte Ford\, 970.259.9234 \nJoin HP Newquist\, Director of the National Guitar Museum\, to explore the 4\,000-year history of the guitar and its evolution as our culture’s most iconic musical instrument. This presentation will be the closing celebration of The Powerhouse’s summer-long visiting exhibition\, Medieval to Metal: The Art and Evolution of the Guitar\, featuring 40 historically and artistically significant instruments.
