Veterans Writing Workshops Online & by phone
Connecting Veterans

Our Veterans Writing Workshops offer a safe place for veterans, their family members, and caregivers to write about their experiences. These workshops provide participants the opportunity to create, share, and receive feedback on their writing and are led by veterans who are professional writers. Previous writing experience is not necessary.

Expressive Writing Workshops

Sign up for completely free and private expressive writing workshops by emailing Cindy@cskaggs.com, leader of similar recent workshops at Mt. Carmel Veterans Services Center. Expressive writing helps relieve the effects of trauma on your life and reduces stress. Research shows that the ability to manage your life through your story increases overall wellness. Workshop approach based on James W. Pennebaker, Ph.D’s Writing to Heal, pain management techniques developed by Sane in Pain author Josephine Jones, as well as creative writing prompts to explore your experiences and possibilities. These free workshops are provided through collaboration with Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center.

Workshops will be led by Pikes Peak Community College English Professor and MFA Creative Writing Faculty @SNHU Cindy Skaggs, who is also an Air Force veteran. Skaggs’ areas of specialization include fiction and nonfiction writing, building writing communities, with a research focus on gender bias in poverty, war writing, and PTSD.

ELIGIBILITY: Military affiliation, over 18 years of age
